Jake Mattison – Sorrow

| On 05, Jun 2012

A former recruit of Simon Cowell’s Syco song writing wing, Jake Mattison has launched a career of his own at the slightly later age of 32 after biding his time as a market trader in his home of Manchester.
Following on from years of being talked over at open mic nights, the former boxer has been captivating audiences with his array of delicate songs since supporting Emile Sande last year. ‘Sorrow’ is a fine introduction into what this guy is all about. Like much of his material, it’s a sensitive song that invokes Mattison’s akin to write from a female’s perspective in essence of his Motown favourites. The guitar is punchy, the strings are real and the song writing is unique.
As far as debut’s go, it’s a first class stamp of identity but not quite enough to deliver Jake Mattison into immediate notoriety. Nevertheless, he has a clear-cut formula for success that makes it a ‘matter of time’ scenario.
Sorrow is out on Monday 3rd June.
