Escapists @ Hoxton Bar and Kitchen

London, 21st May
Last week some motherfuckers stole my computer and that’s the worse thing that can happen, really. It happened just before I was heading to see the Escapists at Hoxton Bar.
The gig actually cheered me up as I was on my own, thinking of all the photos, the mails, the documents and the 200GB of my music collection. Do I have a back-up? Nah.
Well, the Escapists and Various Cruelties seemed to fit perfectly with my trashed mood (the condiment of which was a large ingestion of alcohol).
The Escapists are a four piece band from London and they are promoting their EP called Burial. Arcade Fire rhythmics with the nostalgic guitar touch of Band of Horses, the right vocal and choruses for heartbreaking songs… all makes the known mix of indie rock for indie kids.
Live does always the job though. The guitar riffs sounds always rougher and louder and the lament of the songs transforms into a scream of vendetta or at least hope.
A song like Ghost in Your Bedroom, with the whispers, the pillows and the broken heart is probably the best example of the talent of a band that unfortunately will find the hard times of too much competitors on the same battle field of the genre. We’ll see. All I can say, it helped me as the right companion in the worst moment ever.
