Wiselines – Callin Out

| On 28, May 2012

Greece may be struggling financially and economically but it is becoming an increasingly interesting place for new music. It is in fact from Athens that Wiselines come from. Ted Sourvinos, Anthony Georgou Niki Papagiani, joined recently by George Stasinopoulos on the drums and Jim Floratos on guitars form this electro-pop ensemble which is impressing thanks to their creativity and attention to details.
Callin Out is their first EP, a mindblowing collection of five songs.
Eclectic and evocative, Callin Out starts with the single You, a suggestive cavalcade reminiscent of Maps and The Mirrors. With its shoegazing incipit and its irresistible refrain, You is extremely addictive.
Addiction heavily references Depeche Mode before an angelic voice kicks in and projects the listener into an experience worthy of the best Ulrich Schnauss. A Kiss With Chords comes back to more familiar pop atmospheres but still impresses for its catchy Human League-like pace.
Callin Out closes with the fascinating All I Need, haunting and gothic, which references Air not only with its title, but also and especially with its melodic escapism.
It’s hard to classify Wiselines, but it’s such a pleasure to listen to them, this EP is a lovely surprise.
