KATHRYN WILLIAMS – The Pond

| On 27, May 2012

Kathryn Williams is a Newcastle upon Tyne based singer-songwriter who has been recording and releasing music for nearly thirteen years.
The Pond is the trio Kathyrn Williams together with Simon Edwards (formerly of Fairground Attraction) and English singer songwriter Ginny Clee. It’s released on 28th May, 2012 via One Little Indian. Like the title suggests, its’ waters are deep, dark and intriguing.
Carved is a memorable, well-crafted song with echoes and hypnotic rhythms. An intricate guitar accompanies the whispered, sultry and sensual vocals. In The River, an eastern sounding adventure, a primitive gypsy mood is created. End Of The Pier feels eerie, foreboding and menacing. Circle Round A Tree shows a quirky playfulness to her floating voice which is curious and inviting.
Songs within The Pond are strong and emotionally compelling. The harmonies are fresh, airy and relaxed, often sparse but richly textured. Seductively, the album takes you into darker territory as it progresses. It atmospherically draws on different influences and styles. Daringly the album experiments with mixing both traditional folk and country music with more contemporary funk.
Track list: Carved, Circle Round A Tree, The River, Pass Us By, The Art Of Doing Nothing, Memory Let Down, Bebop, Hard Shoulder, End Of The Pier, Evening Star, Aim.
