Lettie – Good Fortune, Bad Weather
aaamusic | On 21, May 2012
British songstress Lettie’s third LP Good Fortune, Bad Weather is an upbeat electro-pop record of some originality. The record’s progression takes us deeper and deeper into Lettie’s musical world: if openers Swirl and Lucky sound deceptively simple, by the time Sanctuary comes on the songs have become multi-layered and darker, more contemplative. The use of synthethised sounds and their juxtaposition with Lettie’s naive croon is a winning one, making the songs sound fresh and mature at the same time. At a point of junction between Robyn and early Florence and the Machine demos, Good Fortune, Bad Weather sounds genuine and heartfelt, all in the right places.
