The prospect of a celebrated Leeds band produced by The Cribs’ Ryan Jarman is a very exciting one. However, ‘(I Should Be A) Communist’ leaves a lot to be desired. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very easy to tap your foot to but nothing we haven’t heard before, albeit with a bit of reverb on top.

If you haven’t guessed it already, This Many Boyfriends play jangly guitar music that instantly draws comparisons to The Smiths and The Housemartins. Admittedly, when you overlook how this doesn’t sound a hell of a lot different to anything you’ve heard before, the quirks and lyrical content begin to stand out. Other than that, this remains the single highlight.

The big but here is that this four-piece are enjoying some good momentum and continue to woo the crucial publications. Although it has to be said, they will have to craft a sound of their own before any major breakthroughs.
