Dinowalrus – Best Behaviour

| On 20, May 2012

Best Behaviour is the second album from Dinowalrus. With the vocals of the Scissor Sisters mixed with disco synth and a flash of guitar Dinowalrus manage to produce something which is fantastically… Meh. There is some pretty dandy guitar work in places, such as the solo on opener The Gift Shop which is the stand-out song of the album and the sax on Rico is nice. But overall the album feels very samey, and if aren’t a fan of disco drug highs or trippy trance-esque sounds this definitely isn’t the album for you.

However if you enjoy sailing a fairly monotonous cloudy sky with a joint in one hand and an iPod in the other this album could prove to be the perfect soundtrack. But for the rest of us who aren’t high, Best Behaviour is about as fun as sitting with a bunch of friends and being the only one who isn’t out of it on drugs. It’s repetitive and dull. It’s like watching the sky and looking at the clouds and realising that they all look exactly the same. Now you wouldn’t go cloud watching if that were the case, but that pretty much sums up the album: watching monotonous clouds.

It’d probably make good background music for a club but for those who enjoy music with some substance to it this isn’t the album. The Gift Shop makes a decent single but a lot of this album feels like club filler. Listening to the entirety of this album was a challenge.
