RUMER White House Performance Confirmed (Burt Bacharach)
aaamusic | On 12, May 2012
Rumer has been announced as a special guest performer at a concert honouring Burt Bacharach and Hal David, which was held by The President and the First Lady at the White House this week (Wednesday, May 9).
As the sole British artist invited to perform, Rumer took to an all-star bill that also featured the likes of Stevie Wonder, Sheryl Crow, Diana Krall and the actor Mike Myers. It also saw her perform before her hero, Bacharach, with whom she famously sang in his Californian home shortly after she was signed. The two have since worked on music together, and reunited in Washington this week.
This one-off White House event saw Bacharach and David presented with the 2012 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. This was the first time the Gershwin Prize has been awarded to a songwriting team, having been named in memory of George and Ira Gershwin (whose extensive manuscript collections reside in the Library of Congress). President Obama presented the award as he did in 2010 and 2009, when the Library of Congress honored Sir Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder respectively.
“Burt Bacharach & Hal David: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song In Performance at the White House” will be streamed live on www.whitehouse.gov/live
at a later date. It was also be broadcasted officially (details tbc).
Rumer will release her second album, ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, on May 28 in the UK.
