Method Cell @ Purple Turtle

London, 4th May
Method Cell are one of London’s hotly tipped electronica bands and they come on late to a crowd that most of them have experienced the Sulpher gig earlier at the same venue. Tonight the have the crowd buzzing and it’s not from the music, it’s from the buzzing equipment which is not being their friend at the beginning of the set, but what do you get when you spend most of your life running with scissors. The singer Apollos Clifton-Brown moves round the stage like a stick insect on acid as he delivers good renditions of nasal electro pop. They have so catchy songs that have amazing keyboard sequences and robotic vocals, but the one thing they are lacking tonight is commanding the space of the stage which just looks empty in places. You have to remember that they are quite a new band and I think they will get this within time, they maybe need to bring some stage graphics with them, maybe a projector and for this band more theatrics would go down well cause without them the set drags on a bit. You do get a good alternative version of the song ‘Scissors’ and the highlight of the set is song ‘Terminal Velocity’ which gets people dancing. I think in a year this band will really get their live legs so watch out for them playing on the Combichrist Tour.
