Skrillex @ Lotto Arena

| On 07, May 2012

Antwerp, Belgium, 26th April

Pretty Lights starts of well with a brand of Hip Hop meets Electronica and even slips in a Radiohead cover but his lack of stage presence and the fact his set drags on a lot doesn’t really get the crowd going. There is so many people doing what he does a lot better than he does so this is just an annoying interlude while waiting for Skrillex to come on. He must have been friends with Sonny to get on the bill.

Skrillex is tonight playing a massive arena in Belgium and he is out to show that he is now in the big time. Not many people seem to be drinking tonight can’t work out if this is that most of them are underage or if they don’t want to pay what would be a 50p toilet charge in the UK. The thing is he has the cube with him but they have decided to put a huge gap between him and the crowd which makes the crowd interaction very difficult, so their is a huge lack of it tonight which puts a little downer on the show tonight. As usual though people are hear to have a good time and know all the words to every song he is playing. He is very quite tonight not saying much to the audience , like he doesn’t really want to be there, though he pulls out all the stops with a great set of classic numbers and slipping in some new material too. Songs like ‘Bangarang and ruff-neck Bass’ show he has so many good classic songs now that have become very popular, very quickly. The background imaginary on the cell is quite something to see and he is wearing his total immersion suit tonight but does not bring out the robots that are controlled by him using the suit. The highlight of the set for me is his remix of Benny Benassi ‘Cinema’ which has planetary imaginary. He goes offstage and doesn’t come on not even really saying goodbye or coming to the front of the stage which is sad cause he has always been good with crowd interaction. It is still a really good night in Belgium just not his best show.
