Matt Norris and the Moon – Roots Below and Eyes of a Storm

This is somewhat bland acoustic guitar fare – agreeable enough, but overly simple, repetitive and lacking in any particularly original musical content or vibrant character. It’s competently executed, true to the folk genre and certainly not painful on the ears, but I personally wouldn’t bother sitting through it more than once. Standard sentimental harmonies, clichéd lyrics and the familiar gentle, fragile male vocals – supposedly indicating a sensitive and deep soul – all combine to produce music which some may find moving, but others (myself included) will find rather dull.
