Clouds is the new single from Stock-On-Tees band Weird Shapes. The song opens in a melodic, spacey and dare I say, almost cloudy style from the guitars, synth and overlapped vocals. As the song continues this fades out to give focus to the harmonious and powerful yet soft vocals, although the song still has a dreamy feel to it which is further enhanced by the lyrics.

‘You think your life is meant to be a rocking horse in the fantasy.’

There’s something lovely about the lyrics that works so well interwoven into the soaring vocals, hum of guitars and echo of drums. It’s a polished and well put together single, whilst still remaining charming and interesting.

The B-side, Help Me To Land, continues in this otherworldly style, opening with celestial synth and melancholy piano. The vocals are heartfelt and intimate and only add to the instrumentation.

‘Enjoy the peace… We need to settle down… Keep me, keep me grounded. There’s something wrong with the way I float around, please burst these clouds cause I’m ill with them around.’

The lyrics sum up the cloudy melancholia of the B-side track.

Overall a lovely single with an equally lovely B-side. There’s an interesting fantasy and unearthly feel to the music, whilst still sounding commercial enough to appeal to the masses. Certainly worth a listen.
