The Japanese Popstars – RS27
aaamusic | On 01, Apr 2012
You know it’s 2012 when an artist enters a partnership with a Formula 1 team and the sound of the car’s engine is included on the record.
More specifically, UK dance trio The Japanese Popstars have teamed up with the Caterham F1 Team for a whole bunch of musical and corporate activity. The engine featured is a Renault RS27 engine, hence the title.
This practice is becoming far more commonplace and The Japanese Popstars are on the money for seeking an opportunity like this. In an ever-changing industry made up of many expecting everything for nothing, these partnerships are great for artists.
The Popstars are in pole position on this track. RS27 embodies their quintessential raucous, foot-stomping, energetic brand of electronic dance music whilst exploring different elements of the genre throughout. The samples of the engine provide an interesting take but don’t be fooled in to thinking the concept takes the focal point of the record.
The EP, also titled RS27, features a club mix of the title track as well as songs Bopper and Static.
An interesting ‘Making of’ video is also available here
RS27 is released on Monday 9th April.
