Split Evolves & Expands…
This year Split Festival has expanded to a three day event and will take place on the weekend of September 21, 22 & 23 at Ashbrooke Sports Club, Sunderland.
Thanks to a new partnership with Sunderland City Council, we’ll be kicking off with Free Film Friday showing a classic movie on a massive outdoor cinema screen. This event will take place on the Friday evening, entry is free, cinema snacks will be available and the bars will be open. It promises to be a great night out for all ages, so bring your friends and family down.
On the Saturday and Sunday we will be hosting the usual shenanigans that Split goers expect, except we’ve got a lot more on this year.
On top of some soon to be announced great acts on the Main Stage, and music and comedy in the more intimate Fringe Tent, we have a third music marquee this year which will see Split welcome the Sunderland Folk Festival under our umbrella.
After the phenomenal success of last year’s Food Tent, which saw local companies serve up tasty treats from all over the globe, we will be doubling the size of the food marquee and adding a bar, so you sit down at a table, relax, eat, drink and be merry.
Finally, we are very proud to announce that Split 2012 will also be the highlight event of Sunderland University Fresher’s Programme and new intake students purchasing a full freshers’ fortnight wristband will also gain entry to Split.
Split Organiser and Futureheads’ front man, Barry Hyde, commented: “We are expanding in many ways; we are showing an open air movie on the Friday night, which we hope will kick off the weekend with a bang.”
“We are also delighted the welcome Sunderland University’s Freshers’ Week and the Sunderland Folk Festival to Split. We will also extend our food tent that will be a divinely scented belly-bursting treat for all. We are elated about Split 2012. Come and dance, drink, eat and be merry in the serenity of The Ashbrooke Sports Club.”
Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Safer City and Culture, Councillor John Kelly said: “We are delighted to support this year’s Split Festival which adds to the ever growing list of popular annual events held here in our city and we hope people will turn up in great numbers to enjoy themselves.”
Split Music Programmer, Ross Millard, added: “I’m looking forward to getting the programming together for Split Festival 2012. It’s good for me to be on the other side of the fence once a year; approaching agents and exciting new artists, spreading the word about Split Festival and the city of Sunderland.”
“We brought some really exciting music to the city last year and I expect even more from the line-up of this year’s event. The reputation of the festival is going up and up, and I’ll be looking to curate a blend of regional and international artists over the several stages and tents that we have in mind for this year.”
So we’ve got Film, Fringe, Folk, Food, Freshers and much more to come…
