ATHENA – Peeling Apples

Athena is an acoustic and alternative indie rock artist, born in London to Greek parents. Her debut album Breathe With Me (2009) was excellently received.
Athena releases her second album Peeling Apples on 19th March, 2012 on Embraceable Records. It’s produced by Swedes Magnus Frykberg and Tobias Froberg and co-writers include Richard Causon and Jamie Hartman.
Looking At Me Looking At You is about the nature of love and draws inspiration from philosopher Alan Watts who observed that “through our eyes, the universe perceives itself.” I’ll Never Know tackles the battle between head and heart that’s experienced when temptation is resisted. Peeling Apples is an emotional song with a distinctive Mediterranean feel.
Athena touches the most intimate of subjects concerning human nature and relationships. Her traditional Greek folk influences are clear. As Jamie Cullum says she’s classic with a twist. These are fresh and sensual songs which sparkle with an individual and original talent. They’re fine and have great clarity, though I’d be really be more comfortable to use words like and epic and visionary, used by some fans, to describe historic Greek tales of heroism.
The Peeling Apples album launch is at Bush Hall, London on Tuesday 27th March, 2012.
