A Plastic Rose – Build From The Ground Up

This Saint Patrick’s Day I review Northern Ireland’s ‘A Plastic Rose’ with their new single, ‘Build From The Ground Up’.
After being invited to play on two of Snow Patrol’s capacity crowd shows this year already, A Plastic Rose have jumped on top of the opportunity with this first single from their upcoming debut album. And take that opportunity they do.
Build From The Ground Up is a hard-hitting piece of contemporary rock music. A new introduction of a strings section in to the mix lets A Plastic Rose break the glass ceiling and set them apart from the circuit’s current offering of bands. Without discrediting the other members’ abilities, vocalist Ian McHugh’s voice is what gets this single over to the listener. A capable singer, McHugh can convey the emotion whilst still having balls.
Despite this being a great listen I doubt this is the shiniest of shining examples from the upcoming album. It undoubtedly stamps their identity but the quality of A Plastic Rose’s previous material indicates that this is merely a taster of what’s to come.
Build From The Ground Up is out on Monday 19th March.
