The Darlingtons – Bats

With a name like “The Darlingtons” you might expect some kind of a 1950’s girl group tribute act, however there is nothing pop about “Bats” the new single from this four-piece group who hail from Taunton. Due to be released on March 19th, this is an earnest song about internal struggle, frustration and ultimately self-belief.
The song is a basic indie tune with slightly echoed vocals, crashing drums and nice guitar licks giving the song a textured, almost hazy sound. While lead singer carries the melody well and has a lovely rich tone to his voice, unfortunately at times the lyrics become secondary to the music which is a shame because the meaning of the song (an uplifting story of self-triumph) gets slightly lost in the mix. None the less, all the elements of a great band are here: great melody, good song-writing and appealing vocals. Would definitely like to hear more from this group…
