The Civil Wars cover Portishead

| On 11, Mar 2012

Recently The Civil Wars took to the streets of London to cover Portishead’s “Sour Times” in an alley somewhere…… watch on YouTube here:

The Civil Wars are a raw and unique talent who’s heartbreakingly sparse and beautiful melodies sit perfectly with their two agonisingly restrained individual voices. The band is an enigmatic duo comprised of California-to-Nashville transplant Joy Williams and her Alabaman partner, John Paul White. They are a huge DIY success in the USA having independently sold over 215,000 copies of the ‘Barton Hollow’ album already through touring and word of mouth. The album reached Number 1 on the iTunes chart in the US to widespread critical acclaim for their music and live shows. Their incredible year in the US has been rounded off by winning two Grammy’s for Best Country Group Performance and Best Folk Album.

Following a sell-out Union Chapel performance in September last year, the band return to the UK for a full tour in March 2012. With 8 of their 10 UK dates, including London’s Shepherds Bush Empire, already sold out and their album hitting the top 10 on the iTunes chart following their performance on BBC breakfast recently it’s going to be an amazing trip for the pair!
