Steve Smyth – Endless Nowadays

| On 11, Mar 2012

Steve Smyth is a wild Aussie with an obvious wanderlust, his music evoking a distinct journeying quality to it. Having been exposed to an eclectic mix of music, from Nirvana to Dylan and being thoroughly learnt in blues and country, Smyth adheres a sense of discovery to his songs and creates a sound influenced by his exposure whilst crafting something of his own at the same time.

Endless Nowadays has a lazy summer feel to it, an image of a banjo-accompanied traveller with a beard to die for. Smyth has a wonderful voice, an impressive range, with a gruff depth that suits his style perfectly. The use of banjo adds an extra element to the song and Smyth, a remarkable guitarist, employs some nice guitar work, its prominence in the chorus stitching the song together, crafting a chorus that resonates beautifully.

Despite displaying some excellent guitar and vocals, this is by no means the limit of Smyth, who has much to be discovered in his upcoming album, Release, which is out on the 19th of March. He’s playing at the Slaughtered Lamb in London on the 14th, where the album will be launched, and is certainly worth checking out.
