Being There ’17’ – 09/04 (Young & Lost Club)
aaamusic | On 11, Mar 2012
Due for release 09/04/2012 via the renowned Young & Lost Club is ’17,’ the second single from London indie alt-rockers Being There’s upcoming debut album Breaking Away.
Picking up where previous single ‘The Radio’ left off, ‘17’ sees the Being There boys offer another slice of hugely infectious, C86-inspired indie rock. The track recalls 80s and 90s heroes The Replacements, Guided By Voices and R.E.M. while still being stooped in a very tangible sense of modernity. It sees the band once again trading in ethereal guitars that buoyantly drift across your headphones, kept afloat on a sea of light distortion by stomping drum rhythmsand sweeping guitar solos.
‘17’ is the perfect indication of things to come with the impending release of Breaking Away. Being There excel at producing catchy coming-of-age songs rooted in escapism and unrest, their output resonates with a certain simplicity present in the best guitar music; it’s direct, honest and strangely visceral.
Having been named one of NME’s 100 new bands for 2012, it seems the only direction is forward for Being There. The band are foreshadowing the upcoming releases of ‘17’ and Breaking Away, with a number of shows across the UK, including supporting King Charles at the hugely popular New Slang club night in Kingston-upon-Thames.
‘17’ will be released 09/04/2012 through Young & Lost Club.
