Portico Quartet still sound like nothing you ever heard before. The Mercury nominated East London based outfit’s unique music has expanded to embrace new sonic territories. Drawing on the inspiration of electronica, ambient, classical and dance music as they take their strange, beautiful, cinematic, future music to exciting new vistas where the inspiration of Burial, Mount Kimbie and Flying Lotus rubs shoulders with the textures of Arve Henriksen and Bon Iver and echoes of Steve Reich and Max Richter.
Their third self-titled, album was released on Real World Records to rave reviews in January 2012 and the lead single Ruins received enthusiastic airplay from the likes of Rinse FM (ScracthaDVA), 6 Music (Lauren Laverne) and Radio One (Gilles Peterson). Their second single features mixes of two of the album’s standout tracks, with close associate Will Ward (of Portico Quartet side project Circle Traps) reworking the enigmatic Window Seat and the renowned remixers and Hyperdub recording artists LV (who also remixed the band’s breakthrough track Cittagazze back in 2008) bringing their very own brand of dance floor magic to the anthemic City Of Glass.
The band will release the single to tie in with their sold out London show at York Hall with support from Cornelia on Feb 29th. The band have also revealed today that they will play a headline show on October 18th at the Roundhouse in Camden. Upon the announcement Duncan Bellamy said “We can’t wait to play there, we have seen some wicked shows there and are looking forward to smashing it”. Tickets go on sale on Monday 20th February 2012.
