Introducing Ed Vallance
aaamusic | On 15, Feb 2012
Please allow me to introduce Ed Vallance – a London-born musician who is enjoying life as an Englishman in New York. Ed Vallance was born and raised in England, wrote and released his first American full-length in Los Angeles, and moved to Brooklyn in 2010. Building on a loyal following, Vallance releases his intoxicating sophomore album Volcano on 9th April through Proof Records, worldwide.
Drawing comparisons to Talk Talk, Bryan Ferry and Thom Yorke, Ed Vallance strikes a wonderfully unique vocal. Varying British rock influences run throughout Volcano, with noticeable traces of The Cure, Morrissey, math rock, and 80’s alt-pop. The album is a maelstrom of lush harmonies, brittle drums and ravishing guitar pyrotechnics. Recorded with the guidance of veteran producer Mark Ephraim (New Pornographers, Joan As Policewoman, Dirty On Purpose) Volcano is a swift left turn from the acoustic indie-folk of 2008’s debut The Modern Life, and sits incongruously, but confidently, in mainstream pop.
Ed Vallance’s songs have featured on MTV2, VH1, BBC Radio and KCRW. The first single from the record is the eerie and hypnotic “Crystalline” with an accompanying video from LA-based director Andreas Trollf (Papercuts, Datarock). A follow-up video for “Black & White Light” is chalked for release in March. A UK tour is planned for March – dates to be announced.
