“Northern Lights” is a chilled-out ambient track filled with gorgeous melody and simple, expressive elements that glide effortlessly over the subtle beats. It is perfect for home consumption or as a laid back end-of-night closer. Regardless of venue, this track demands a proper listen for maximum satisfaction.
It is hard to put the music of the Amsterdam based artist/producer Oxy-Yan (Jan Hinke -1978) in one category. All of his music, though, has one common denominator: Its origin is electronic.
The fundament for the music produced by Oxy-Yan is based in the early nineties when the Commodore Amiga was launched. Adding a sampler and Protracker software, this computer made it possible to produce music using the four mono tracks available. Soon for Oxy-Yan soon those four tracks proved insufficient to fulfill his creative ideas. Therefore he added hardware, vintage synths, samplers and drum machines to his equipment – forming South Farmer Studios.
In this studio a wide variety of music found its way to the streets and the stages. Like his current productions, the works of Oxy-Yan are influenced by a classical piano background as much as DJ-ing with a broad record collection. He produced from Electrojazz to Techno, from Pop to Breakbeat, and from Dutch Lyrical to Eighties Rock. However, he is probably best known for his bootleg remixes, of which the breakbeat version of Radiohead’s Everything in its right place (released under Jan Hinke) is a great example.
