Nothing Left (So Here’s A Beat) is a violent outburst of dark, twisted synths, right on your face. What is amazing is how these climax in a chorus, complete with male backing vocals, that reminds one – dare I say it – of golden-era Backstreet Boys. With added balls, that is. The song is high in pathos as a result, but never cheesy. This is an impressive result. It’s quite difficult to say anything else, given the cleverly crafted mystery surrounding the band, Young Fathers… no bio, no hometown, no nothing. Their site shows mainly culture-referencing gig posters and a statement of intent in poster format that says a lot about the band’s ambition. Their music speaks for itself, in these circumstances. Nothing Left shows a band that dares to take risks and gets away with it.
