Sport of Kings – Logic House

| On 11, Dec 2011

Brooklyn-based band Sport of Kings releases their first EP, Logic House, as an aperitif before debut album will come out in January. A mix of different influences, Sport of Kings is made of Dubliner singer/guitarist Richard Kelly, bass player Ben Haberland, drummer Ian Chang, and Colorado native Matt Beckemeyer at the keyboards. The four-piece is enriched by the contribution of a three-piece horn section, Trombone, Tenor Sax, and Trumpet, played by brothers Marc and Jas Walton, plus Billy Aukstik. Let’s say from the beginning that labelling Sport of Kings under the ‘indie’ label could be misleading, since the Steely Dan and Beach Boys- influenced style of SoK has very little to do with the classic indie of C86, the one we get taught at school, but more with the jazz vibes of Little Feat, hence the ‘indie yacht’ label. Logic House needs a patient listener who will be rewarded with the fulfilling satisfaction of a sound that grows and grows with time. Two versions of Free Jazz, and other three very interesting pieces will constitute a very interesting appetiser before the main dish coming in few weeks with Sport of Kings’ debut album.
