November’s final parties are quite the stunners, with payday weekend bolstered by a double header of superlative electronic variety lined up at Sankeys. Friday sees the return of Just Skank, with a brutal support cast which ensure you will do just that. Dubstep, grime, hip-hop, bashment, DnB and all the bits in-between; hold tight. Then one day later Air comes on board for a jam packed ensemble of some of house and techno’s strongest talent out there right now, with European scene leaders joined by some sparkling talent from just over the Pennines.
Just Skank returns to take the final Friday in funk-laden style. Coki tops the bill, the Benga sidekick and original dubstep pioneer rightly feted as one of the true leaders amongst the music. A live performance from Engine Earz, heralded in some corners as the Massive Attack of the dubstep generation, makes for some mean and moody yet effervescent and enigmatic dance music. Daerk Tantrums, Benton, T_! and Compa round things off.
Saturday sees a showcase smashed full of jocks for Air’s presence. Teutonic house shaman Nick Curly heads up the bill, the DJ Sneak collaborator riding the crest of a ridiculously fruitful wave. Rapidly becoming a certified Sankeys favourite, Nick’s year has seen him continue his rise to the cream of global electronic music, with Cocoon, Circo Loco, PanoramaBar and every festival worth its global salt all booking the badman. Oh and did we mention he runs two of the best labels going in 8 bit and Cecille? Pure Talent in abundance at Sankeys.
Support comes thick and fast, firstly with the Leeds connection, with Infant records head honcho Simon Baker dovetailing with the Visionquest vixen Laura Jones. A live show from Kate Simko alongside DJ sets from Glimpse and Pezzner finish off a thoroughly jammed pack ensemble of talent. Talk about ending the month in style.
