I am in Love – Call Me An Animal

Attempting to usurp Kasabian as Leicestershire’s musical crown jewels, synth pop four piece I am in Love make their case in stunning fashion on this, their second release but first E.P. The title track has made the rounds before, being playlisted on Radio One on its first release at the start of the month, and it’s become no less excellent since then. Simultaneously dark and unutterably camp, it’s kohl soaked glam stomp coming on like Culture Club covering the Cure, it’s a very exciting sign for what could be coming next. This doesn’t stop here, opening track, the bafflingly titled Buccaneer Mastery showcases singer Seb Twigden‘s nigh on hysterical falsetto before breaking down into a ridiculously exciting drum led breakdown strangely reminiscent of Enter Shikari minus the metal. Finally, Our Heroes Dilemma closes things on an even more bombastic note, starting with a hushed intro of ascending piano keys before blowing sky high with a Queen-esque drum loop. It’s exciting, catchy and accessible in a way that all pop music could and should be. Recommended to the ends of the earth.
