Nitkowski – Stay in the home you love

| On 13, Nov 2011

What can I say about “Stay in The Home You Love” the newest release from Nitkowski? I know 30 seconds in that it is not my cup of tea but then again, I doubt that Nitkowsi are aiming towards the tea drinkers of this world. In fact under the ‘biography’ and ‘influences’ sections on their Facebook profile they have merely written “gin” so I guess that tells me.

“Stay in the Home You Love” consists of 10 songs- the genre is difficult to define, I hear guitars and at times alternative sounding guitar riffs, but I also hear heavy metal style vocals- though they don’t seem to be the main focus of the music. The volume levels for the vocals is surprisingly low- perhaps this is to prevent the band from sounding like a full blown metal band? The result is a mesh of frantic guitars, angsty vocals and loud changing drum beats.

Many of Nitkowski’s song structures do not follow the normal patterns- which are used by even the most experimental rock bands. Instead Nitkowski draw the listener in on a complex journey from steady and controlled rock to crescendos, high energy and complicated rock. This is heard on opener ‘Crisp Crisp Sheets and Bright Bright Sunshine’- it is 6 minutes of sheer unpredictability.

Nitkowsi are certainly not a band intended  for the mainstream, however for fans of this genre, with their unique musical fusions and ever changing song structures this band does not only grab the attention of a listener- it demands it.
