The Lights – Mostly Water

The Lights are five piece indie-pop outfit from Birmingham who have just released their debut LP “Teenager of the Century”. Their sound is bright, melodic and rich featuring many vocal harmonies and instrumental layering. They have a broad range of influences from Morrissey to Patti Smith and the band say that their aim is not to be pigeon holed.
“Mostly Water” begins with a catchy guitar riff and is shortly followed by the highly capable and clear vocals of lead singer Liz Sheils. Although the theme of this song seems to be the breakdown of a relationship “Going down with this sinking ship, clinging to the wreckage by our fingertips” The Lights manage to keep the tone upbeat even featuring a jovial guitar solo section that lasts about 30 seconds and gives the song an energetic kick.
