Swimming – Neutron Wireless Crystal

Nottingham outfit Swimming release Neutron Wireless Crystal ahead of the release of their debut album Ecstatic International on the 7th of November. Let’s get this first thing out the way: this is unrestrained, unashamed pop. Sounding like a mix of Everything Counts-era Depeche Mode and Klaxons, Neutron Wireless Crystal is a sleazy, raucous, dirty bag of bulging hooks. “I’m floating all around, it feels like I’m projected” – and so does the song. Its spinning motion and cinematic quality make you feel like you’re dancing in the middle of a psychedelic revolving door.
B-side Mining for Diamonds brings the same influences to mind, with an added touch of Tears for Fears. Softer than its predecessor and more conventionally catchy, its true joy comes when the keyboard begins to fleet and a female backing vocalist has orgasmic spasms on top of it. A single aimed for greatness.
