Buraka Som Sistema are back! Having worked with the band since their ‘Sound of Kuduro’ release back in 2008, it makes sense for Black Atlantic to reunite with the BSS crew for their next London show. Buraka recently announced their return to the forefront of electronic DANCE music with their new ‘Komba’ album, released today on their own imprint – Enchufada.

BURAKA SOM SISTEMA (LIVE)

Since the release of their ‘From Buraka to the World’ and ‘Sound of Kuduro’ EPs and the critically acclaimed album ‘Black Diamond’ LP, Buraka Som Sistema have won hearts and minds across the world via a combination of forward thinking productions and unforgettable live shows. Looking back, ‘Black Diamond’ was as inclusive as it was fiercely driven, earning the group an MTV Europe Award. Pitchfork called it “One of the fiercest dance records in recent memory.” It was whilst touring that album that the industry and public alike woke up to the astonishing Buraka Som Sistema live experience, with the band enjoying increased recognition as top performers; the New York Times and The Guardian raved about the group’s stage presence and The Fader considered their show “one of the most jawdroppingly effusive club moments we’ve witnessed”.

Having found time to contribute to the highly respected ‘Fabric Live’ series (Fabric Live 49 – Buraka Som Sistema), and many more months on the road, September 2010 saw the band decamp to a house in the woodlands of Monchique, in the South of Portugal, to begin working on the follow up to ‘Black Diamond’.

This was the beginning of process that lasted almost a year and saw the band band dividing their time between Lisbon and London, enlisting the likes of Roses Gabor, Afrikan Boy and Mixhell (to name just a few) for guest appearances on what has become ‘Komba’.

For their first single, the band chose ‘Hangover (Bababa)’, a co-production with Stereotyp, (one of the world’s most underrated beat makers). Most recently the party anthem ‘(We Stay) Up All Night’ was unleashed, enabling their legions of fans to work up a sweat before ‘Komba’ hits the streets on October 31st.

Put simply, Buraka Som Sistema are not trying to impress anyone with the newest synthesizer patch or the new cool BPM of the season. They’re just having fun, making beats and having even more fun playing them out to people around the world. Being on the road solidly for three years transformed Buraka from what was initially a producer’s idea into a fully-fledged band, in fact you’d be hard pushed to find a more intense, energetic and memorable live show in the dance music arena right now. Having trail-blazed their way across the globe tearing up clubs and festival stages with their unique undiluted take on the global ghetto revolution we’re excited to have them bring some of that raw flavour back to London town.

REDINHO (LIVE)

Redinho (pronounced Red-dean-yo), one of Number’s multi-talented rising stars, is the nom de plume of London-based producer Tom Calvert. Despite having only just released his second EP, the man has managed to sneak into the public consciousness thanks to the instantly sold out Bare Blips EP (released on Numbers in 2010), a series of genre-bending shows across Europe, America, and now his most recent release, the ‘Edge Off’ EP.  Redinho’s unmissable stage performances contain both the hard edged electronic material as featured on Bare Blips alongside his new vocal Talkbox electro-funk material: think Roger Troutman and Bernie Worrell being produced by the Neptunes with the subs cranked to remind you it’s firmly from the UK.
