New single by Brightoners Sweet Sweet Lies is all that that name conveys – duplicitious, bittersweet, cheeky and twee. All in the best ways possible. Noone Will Love You (Like I Do) is a malicious acoustic ballad that’s as passionate as it is self-deprecating. Singer Dominic Von Trapp states, in his cave-deep voice, “I could’ve been quite smart […]If I didn’t treat apathy like some form of art” , which for what it’s worth, I’m going to tape to my refrigerator in quite massive format. As you’d expect the song is an arpeggio-adorned, light-as-a-feather affair, which is as sincere and sweet as many acoustic songs wished to be. You see, just cause it’s acoustic, doesn’t mean it’s naked; but this one is. It’s the humour that makes the difference. Since the title of the song is also its refrain, you can’t help but have a chuckle when the twist comes, and the last line recites “Everybody loves you like I do”. Bitter, extremely bitter humour, this is.
