Summer Camp – Welcome To Condale

| On 31, Oct 2011

Finally out on Moshi Moshi is Welcome to Condale, first album for Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey, aka Summer Camp. After two years of beautiful singles, Welcome To Condale matches the high expectations of critics and audience.

For anyone that religiously followed Summer Camp from the first steps in the Indie-world, Welcome To Condale is no surprise, gathering songs that are well-known already, from the opening Better Off With You to the bouncing Ghost Train. That said, un-wrapping Welcome To Condale is no-less exciting. Down, latest single that accompanies the release of the album, is sugary, melancholic and irresistible. Same for Brian Krakow, with its swinging drumbeat and the ubercatchy refrain.

The duo doesn’t disdain explorations in un-explored territories, as in I Want You, a piece that The Knife would be jealous about. Summing up, you won’t find any song on this album that doesn’t deserve at least 7 out of 10. This is the only reason why we’ll forgive Summer Camp for being so annoyingly Eighties, and for having excluded Around The Moon, their best song without any doubt… but, you know, when you’re so good, forgiving is no sacrifice at all.
