Turin Brakes tour the iconic “The Opitmist” & release an EP with new song orginal song “Rescue Squad” and ‘Chim Chim Cher ee’ in November.

In November Turin Brakes will be performing their Mercury music nominated, platinum selling debut album “The Optimist”. Turin Brakes’ Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian with a full band, start the tour on Nov 7th at The Cambridge Junction, play London’s Koko on 11th and finish in Whitehaven on 25th.
Turin Brakes have recorded a 4 track EP to accompany the tour which will be available for the first time at the shows and via their website. The EP debuts 3 covers – including ‘Chim Chim Cher ee’ from Mary Poppins, recently aired by Radio 2’s Dermot O’Leary and one original new track ‘Rescue Squad’, “we’ve stuck on an original too to spice things up”.
In 2001 Turin Brakes shimmering acoustic guitars, vocal harmonies as soft and refreshing as a gentle summer breeze were captured perfectly on their 2001 debut album The Optimist, featuring songs such as Underdog (Save Me) and Emergency 72.
‘We have never duplicated the sound of that first record,’ says Gale. ‘It’s an iconic album. We’ve since made records that have been just as good, but that one captured some sort of zeitgeist. On the surface it was melancholy, but underneath it was hopeful. That’s why we called it The Optimist.’
The NME called The Optimist “one of those albums” writing “here’s music for the twilight hours -feverish, contemplative, nostalgic. It resonates with the force of a thousand passionate post-club conversations in darkened smoke-filled rooms, of intense doomed liaisons of youthful arrogance, undercut by fear and failure.” 9 out of 10.
