PINEY GIR – Geronimo

| On 23, Oct 2011

Although 100% American, from Kansas City, Angela Penhaligon, aka Piney Gir, is one of the new voices of London. Already at her first album, Piney Gir is an artist that defies every attempt of definition, having ranged from electronic to rock, and attempting now exploration in girl-pop of the 60s. Geronimo! is a collection of inspired gems, at least for the first half of the album. De-Spector-ed of superfluous layers, Piney Gir gets straight to the point and revitalises the Beatles of Sgt. Pepper and the Byrds of Turn! Turn! Turn! (Would You Be There), even recreating Tarantin-esque atmospheres as in the lovely Longest Day of Spring.

Less fortunate are the escapes in the territories of Johnny Cash, like in the unnecessary River Song, and the… well… silly, Let’s Get Silly.

Geronimo! could have been a magnificent EP, instead is a, still promising, but forgettable album.
