Alphabet Backwards: British Explorer EP released 28th November 2011
aaamusic | On 23, Oct 2011
Heralding from Oxford where theyve been championed through BBC Introducing, Alphabet Backwards have already enjoyed radio support from Tom Robinson, Bob Harris Huw Stephens, Cerys Matthews and Steve Lamacq and following on from the success of their White Russian EP released in May, the guitar pop five piece cement their sound further with new three track EP British Explorer.
Alphabet Backwards ethos is simple: to champion the noble art of Pop music, dancing all the way. This is no more clearer than in lead single Taller, which in the words of frontman James Hitchman is about seeing an ex-girlfriend on the street with her new boyfriend, feeling belittled about it and wondering if she still misses you, prefers you to the new boyfriend and wants you back.
The bands sound is infectiously catchy and puts a smile on your face. Its a summery, joyous, happy-go-lucky affair, punctuated with an irresistible synth buzz and hooks aplenty
Starting as one man and his guitar James recruited people he enjoyed playing with, friends Paul and Josh (of the T-Mobile JoshWard84 campaign fame) and Bob Tom on keys. Josh then enlisted his sister Steph to join James on lead vocals.
Alphabet Backwards have an ever expanding and enthusiastic fan-base, having played hard throughout the festival season and are currently touring to support the EP release, putting a little bit of summer pop sunshine back into these wintery nights.
