The Jezabels – Endless Summer by thejezabels
The Jezabels are pleased to announce they will return to London for a show at Heaven on Tuesday 29th November- set to be their biggest headline show to date in the UK. News of this one off show comes after an extensive tour of the US and Canada, and ahead of The Jezabels’ biggest selling shows in their native Australia.
The Jezabels have spent the best part of 2011 honing their genre defying craft. This work has now come to fruition with their acclaimed debut album ‘Prisoner’, which shot to the top of the Australian iTunes chart (coming in close right after number 1 chart-topper Adele).
The band’s last London show was a stunning sold-out performance at XOYO, a taster which was indicative of bigger things to come. Described by Clash Magazine as “an electrically charged beast, screaming of heartache and lost love”, The Jezabels are guaranteed to blow away both loyal fans and curious newcomers when they take to the London stage once again next month.
‘Endless Summer’, out now, is the first single to be taken from the album. It showcases perfectly the band’s signature box of tricks. Singer Hayley Mary is nothing short of mesmerising, combining all the prowess of some of rock’s finest front women. Comparisons have been made between her and Stevie Nicks, Siouxsie Sioux, Karen O, Cyndi Lauper, Kate Bush, Florence Welch; the list goes on. Together with Samuel Lockwood on guitar bringing a touch of organic country-folk to the band’s energy, the classically trained pianist Heather Shannon on keys and sticks-man Nik Kaloper described as a perpetual ball of rhythm, The Jezabels have created an album that is a journey through wild and savage lands. Endless Summer is as epic and widescreen as their native land and with their vaulting ambition The Jezabels are one of the most unpredictably volatile and visceral new bands to emerge this year.
They have taken their very own brand of emotionally charged, adrenaline fuelled classic rock/pop out of their native land and cast it like some malevolent spell across the oceans. Their trilogy of EPs (all of which went to No.1 in the Australian iTunes charts) were their calling card and the songs took on a life of their own and swooped down over New York City at last year’s CMJ. Gaining velocity, The Jezabels hit SXSW earlier this year; the effect was as though they had almost been inhaled by those who saw them, drawn deep into the lungs and hearts of everyone who was there. When the band finally hit UK shores back in May the expectation was high and the band more than delivered.
