There was a time when dance halls were packed to the rafters with teenagers dancing to jazz. They would come to jump and jive to bands that dominated the charts – Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Louis Jordan – the vibe was energetic, dynamic, lively and fun!
Ronnie Scott’s recreates those heady days, and steps right into the swing era. For the first time ever, the club will remove all the tables in front of their infamous bandstand to create a dancefloor for a night of swing!
Bringing the best of big band swing to the stage is James Langston and his Sold Senders, performing from original charts from the stars of the era. James is joined by award-winning clarinetist Mark Crooks and superb vocal stylist Louise Cookman.
James Langton is internationally renowned as a re-creator of the Big Band Swing sound. His bands, their concerts and the recordings he produces (both live and in studio,) cover works from the jazz and dance bands of the early 1930s to the classic Capitol recordings of the 1950s. His various orchestras have played arrangements recreated from the original scores and also from James’ own transcriptions from recordings.
James Langton continues to perform with his Swing Orchestras, as well as researching and writing on the Swing Era and its music. He has collaborated often, researching, writing commissioned music, performing concerts and special events and writing articles and essays. He brings not only his knowledge and experience but also passion, commitment and perfectionism to each project.
