As if Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder had sold their souls to the devil for music in a an episode of True Blood’ Glamour Cave
The Civil Wars are a magical new band fresh out of Nashville whose first track ‘Barton Hollow’ will be available on limited edition imported 7” vinyl from October 31st. The Civil Wars debut album, also called ‘Barton Hollow’, will be released in the UK early in 2012.
The band set the ‘Later with Jools’ studio alight this week with their debut UK TV performance of ‘Barton Hollow’ which can be seen at http://youtube.com/watch?v=A-DB2btV2oQ
The stunning acoustic performance led to the band trending WORLDWIDE on Twitter immediately after the show and a huge surge in sales of the US import version of their album ‘Barton Hollow’, which rose to No 15 on the iTunes chart overnight subsequent to the broadcast.
Following a sell-out Union Chapel performance in September the band now announce a headline Shepherds Bush Empire to coincide with the UK release of the album, on Monday 19th March. Tickets for Shepherds Bush will be available from Friday 7th October from http://www.kililive.com/shows/ or 0844 871 8803. Other UK dates will be announced shortly.
The band is an enigmatic duo comprised of California-to-Nashville transplant Joy Williams and her Alabaman partner, John Paul White. They are a huge DIY success in their homeland having independently sold over 185,000 copies of the ‘Barton Hollow’ album already through touring and word of mouth. The album reached Number 1 on the iTunes chart in the US to widespread critical acclaim for their music and live shows.
The Civil Wars are a raw and unique talent who’s heartbreakingly sparse and beautiful melodies sit perfectly with their two agonisingly restrained individual voices. With flavours of blues, folk, Americana, country and classic singer-songwriter their sound is firmly rooted in the gothic American South.
Accompanied by dark and brooding visuals, the bands imagery continues the intimate conversations and understated sparks of the music. The haunting video for ‘Barton Hollow’ can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooTyuRd9zSg
Adele has personally chosen the band to support her on her recent US and UK tours and says ‘The Civil Wars are by far the BEST live band I have EVER seen.’
