Due out 14th November is The Radio/Back to the Future, the new double A-side single from Being There, its being released on digital download and limited edition CD on Young and Lost Club.

Being There have a sound heavily rooted in the guitar work of 80s heroes R.E.M. and the Replacements, via everyone from Yo La Tengo, Guided By Voices and Kurt Vile. The band create a jangling and shambolic ruckus that remains captivating in its simplicity and navet throughout, much like the best work of many of their 80s and 90s idols.

The two tracks on display here demonstrate two very different sides to the band. The Radio is a gentle, slow-burning rocker that lulls you into a false sense of security before Back to the Future reminds you with its urgent foot-stomping rhythms that there is more on display here than nice melodies.

Sammy Lewis (vocals, guitar), James Robinson (bass), and Nick Olorenshaw (guitar) all met while studying at Manchester Uni, later discovering drummer Tom Rapanakis on moving south to London.

Recorded in Leeds by Richard Formby (acclaimed for his work with Wild Beasts), with The Radio/Back to the Future, they have produced songs of immediacy with references to growing up and leaving childhood behind. These songs bear the influences of coming of age classics such as Freaks and Geeks and John Hughes oeuvre. They were also written during a time of economic uncertainty, dwindling employment and a Tory government, these are songs that dream of escape whilst staying rooted in reality.

Prior to this release they are embarking on their first tour – supporting Y&L label mates Noah and the Whale, before the single launch at the Shacklewell Arms in London.
