Beat Ratio is a musical project started as a reaction to the the endless possibilities of modern music software. Being fed up with getting lost in useless perfectionism, this past Summer Gabriele aka Beat Ratio got himself a bunch of cassettes on freecycle, a 4-track recorder, a sequencer and decided to turn the computer off and start from scratch. Working exclusively on tape; from the initial ideas to the final masters, has forced me to accept those imperfections that, in the end, make music more real. But rather than deliberately emphasizing those imperfections to give a lo-fi feel to the project, I try to use the limitations imposed by tape as an incentive to stimulate creativity.

The first two songs, “Island in the City” and “Monkey Girl” will be released as a free download on the Plasticrane Prod. website on the 21 of October but you can preview them on www.beatratio.com. More songs are currently in the works and the aim is to start gigging before the end of the year.
