For four decades, Leonard Cohen has been one of the most important and influential songwriters of our time, a figure whose body of work achieves greater depths of mystery and meaning as time goes on, Cohen celebrated his 77th birthday last week. The Complete Studio Albums Collection contains all of Cohen’s 11 studio albums, each in a mini-LP replica CD jacket of the original release. Along with these, a lavish 36-page booklet will include all discographical annotations and recording information, as well as a brilliant 1,300-word essay by Leonard Cohen confidant Pico Lyer.

From the 1960s to the ’00s, the transcendent beauty of Leonard Cohen unfolds over the course of The Complete Studio Albums Collection. Individually, the 11 albums in the box set comprise:

SONGS OF LOVE AND HATE (March 1971);
NEW SKIN FOR THE OLD CEREMONY (August 1974);
DEATH OF A LADIES’ MAN (November 1977);

A limited edition 17 album deluxe box set, which also includes live recordings, will be available from www.leonardcohen.com on October 10. As well as all 11 studio albums it contains: Live Songs (April 1973), Cohen Live – Leonard Cohen In Concert (June 1994), Field Commander Cohen: Tour of 1979 (February 2001), Live In London (March 2009), Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970 (October 2009), and Songs From The Road (October 2009).

One of the most fascinating and enigmatic singer/ songwriters of our time, Leonard Cohen has retained an audience across four decades of music-making interrupted by various digressions into personal and creative exploration, all of which have only added to the mystique surrounding him. He commands the attention of critics and younger musicians more firmly than any other musical figure from the 1960’s who is still working at the outset of the 21st century. This is all the more remarkable an achievement for someone who didn’t even aspire to a musical career until he was in his thirties.
