Balto make a welcome return today, offering up their second single ‘Elizabeth The Bumblebee ‘ as a free download. Having compelled many with their previous single, haunting love letter ‘ The Railyard’, this transiberian Americana outfit look to show a slightly different sound in their upcoming single. While ‘ The Railyard’ makes use of acapella folk chanting, heartfelt vocals and a solemn cello, ‘Elizabeth The Bumblebee’ is noticeably less ethereal, characterised by a twanging guitar and mid-American melody laying the foundation to a far different vocal delivery from what you may be used to from front man Dan Sheron.
Penned and first performed at Sparrow Hills Park in the heart of Moscow, ‘Elizabeth The Bumblebee’ is folk in its truest form. Poking light imagery through a dark veil and offering us some hoe-down action in the process, this track shows gives us a glimpse into a more light hearted Balto. The beautifully arranged guitar driven melody brushes aside the snow and loneliness of Sheron’s Siberian exile and offers a hint of sunshine behind the cloud, a welcome half smile from a frontman who has enthralled many with his soulful and lonely odes to his time spent traveling behind Iron Curtain.
