Cosmo Jarvis – My Day

From the moment you catch an earful of Cosmo Jarvis’ single My Day, you’ll immediately fall in love with the artist. Combining a nice blend of indie and rock ‘n roll, his single epitomises everything great about guitar based music; pace, rhythm & lyrics that actually make sense. Having already played shows alongside Muse & Panic! At The Disco as well as being acclaimed by Mr knowitall Stephen Fry, Cosmo Jarvis certainly has a bright future ahead of him.
The track itself is an upbeat, fast tempo’d number that infuses guitar, bass and drums perfectly giving the impression Cosmo is a five piece band (Wikipedia corrected me on this), rather than one very talented musician. The introduction to the track stands head and shoulders above all current indie music, almost sounding Oasis-esque at times with intricate guitar supporting a nice bassy start. Even his lyrics are great, centred on his youth including referencing his drug use; it makes a change from artists like Tinie Tempah who discusses the merits of chocolate biscuits in one of his hits.
Cosmo Jarvis has managed to hit everything on My Day, the drums, bass and vocals all work perfectly in unison alongside the guitar to create a wonderful track. Whilst the current music marketplace may be overcrowded with mediocre electronica and repetitive dance beats, Cosmo’s single is a sign of brighter things to come, and that maybe guitar music is ready to resurge and reclaim its throne as the dominant force in music.
