Jodie Harsh’s legendary club night has come far since it’s humble beginnings at Soho Revue Bar in 2006. With a simple mission statement to bring a colourful fashion and music influence to West End nightlife which hadn’t happened since the 80’s. All of a sudden clubbers and stars flocked in, paparazzi hovered outside, the clubbed popped up as a voice in Vogue and i-D magazine and word spread all over, with talk of the nightlife phenomenon spreading all the way to Tokyo. Everyone wanted to dance there, drink there, play there, see and be seen there.
Musically always one step ahead of the trend, guest DJ sets by the likes of Peaches, Siouxsie Sioux, Rosin Murphy, Robyn, Kissy Sellout, William Orbit, The XX, Fenech-Soler and Grum have complimented more live shows. The constantly evolving spectacle swept through Shoreditch with a brief stint at The Last Days of Decadence, moved on to Paramount at the summit of the Centrepoint and has now settled in the sumptuous settings of Café de Paris, our new home. The summer of 2011 saw the Circus troupe program the Relentless stage at Lovebox Festival and are collaborating with world-famous fashion photographer Tim Bret-Day on an exhibition project of gargantuous proportions – the opening of which will take place at Bond on Wednesday the 28th of September. What started off as a weekly Soho hangout has now flourished into a multifaceted brand, crossing over all spectrums of popular culture, branching out over not only clubland but the performing and visual arts, fashion and music industries.
This is going to be massive. This is…Circus.
30.9.11 – 5th Birthday
Here we are, at 5 years old. It’s no mean feat for a club brand…but this is just the beginning. As well as a bundle of surprises, the Birthday celebrations will feature a soundtrack by Jodie Harsh, Kris Di Angelis and Joshyou Are on the decks while Scottee entrances you with his unique performance and the entire Circus Troupe come together for the first time – think pole dancers, characters and spectacle. You will be welcomed by hosts from past and present, with faces from the early days of the club rejoining the gang to celebrate the last five years of madness. We re keeping it in the family for this gigantic celebration.
In our back room, the Prive, we have Jodie’s second club brand, Room Service, which has become the sexiest party in London. With DJ sets from Fat Tony and James Pople – plus the usual unruly behavior from the Go-Go boys and hosts La Pequena ad Johanna – this has got to be the coolest gay backroom around.
