As we say goodbye to a summer who’s only real heat seemed to come from insurrectionary youth, ReviveHER returns to the Dalston heartlands for another night of hedonistic resistance, our first event since the London /Manchester mini-tour with COS/MES + Chida from Japan at the beginning of July.
Coming back with a bang means flying over top flight headliners from NYC in the shape of Rong/DFA’s Lee Douglas and ex Outhud/chk chk chk bassist and producer Justin Vandervolgen. Known collectively as TBD, this is their rare and much awaited UK debut together. Subliminal artists and DJs in their own rights, these dudes are highly respected by jocks the World round. TBD’s seditious strain of mutant discoid house first impacted with the release of their 2009 debut “What Is This?” on their own TBD Sounds label. Since then they have gone on to release two more on their own imprint and a devastating dancefloor smasher on DFA (Oh My / OK Cool). Their individual careers and instant dual force, made them in demand producers, remixing previous ReviveHER’s Populette, Jacque Renault’s Runaway and CosMes’ Gomez Land, as well as Permanent Vacation, 2020 Soundsystem and Shit Robot with much aplomb. Add to that the killer “Got To Get To My Baby” and “Needs Ending” edits on Golf Channel’s Try To Find Me series and you’ve got some serious tackle. So we’re made up to have this Big Apple tandem bringing the NYC heat to the East London underground.
Upstairs, whetting the appetite of the original Dalston Superstore crowd, Luke Howard dons his new Miss Cheesecake persona. Debuting a release earlier this year on Faze Action records, he released “Get Off The Floor”, taking its inspiration from “Paris Is Burning” and the 80s NYC vogueing scene. A perfect compliment to the raw headiness of NYC’s TBD in the basement. Her other track “You Must Create” fulfils Hi-NRG proto house and includes Luke’s own vocals. A DJ veteran of over 20 years on the gay scene taking in residences at clubs like Queer Nation, he is now part of the globally successful Horse Meat Disco, yet still stays true to his roots, DJing at HMD’s home – The Eagle’s other gay nights such as Deep Inside and Carpet Burn. We welcome Luke with open arms and wish him luck with his/her new solo venture as Miss Cheesecake.
On warm up duties up-stairs from 9pm, we have Doug Shipton of Finders Keepers / B-Music enlightening us to … and in the labels’ own words, “Japanese choreography records, space-age Turkish protest songs, Czechoslovakian vampire soundtracks, Welsh rare-beat, bubblegum folk, drugsploitation operatics, banned British crime thrillers and celebrity Gallic Martini adverts.” Serious crate diggers….get down early for some majaaa trainspotting!
And finally, Ben Pound notches up the gear in the final third upstairs, to lighten up the mood and bring down the party people along with his bezzy Ali Love to do some live vocals. Brilliant.
Forthcoming…
The New York up’s don’t end there, as we have another special NY guest due November 4th at a classic Dalston after hours hang out (get your cues out for your favourite Turkish snooker club) and the launch of a name associated booking policy party, called Dogme East on October 21st….and that’s not forgetting a Xmas mash up at Superstore with some real heavy billers. So strap yourself in and ready yourself for a heavyweight ReviveHER run in to 2012 and beyond.
