Wednesday 5th October 2011
Ronnie Scott’s London
Mention the name Pino Palladino to anyone who has the vaguest interest in any musical genre, and his name will be familiar. As a sideman, his resumé is a who’s who of pop, rock, neo-soul and jazz – from Paul Simon, Jeff Beck, John Meyer, Eric Clapton and The Who (replacing the late John Entwistle), to Roy Hargrove, Herbie Hancock, D’Angelo, Common, Erykah Badu and most recently Adele on ‘21’. Ronnie Scott’s now invites the legendary Welsh bass guitarist, Pino Palladino to make his first ever London appearance as leader.
As one of the most sought-after session players, Palladino is equally at home with jazz, blues, neo soul and funk, yet is still able to express himself. He has mastered a variety of techniques and his playing has earned him custom instruments bearing his name.
For his debut performance as leader, Palladino invites a group of friends including the incredible and innovative young drummer Chris Dave, best known for laying down the groove with Robert Glasper. On keyboards is James Poyser, also a producer, songwriter, and longtime collaborator and member of The Roots who has also toured with such distinctive artists as Jay-Z and Aretha Franklin, alongside contributing to the works of Adele, Norah Jones, and Femi Kuti amongst others.
