Songs Of Trees – Only Road

What can you say about Songs of Trees. Not a lot really. Song’s of Trees is the solo efforts of Kevin Osbourne whose been active in the music industry for 15 years as a writer, producer, engineer, musician and session vocalist amongst other things.
‘Only Road’ is a departure from his commercial pop roots instead going for a chilled out acoustic track.
Whilst his vocals a very good showing a warmth and fragility (which translates as raspy and whispery). It is also unexceptional. Watch X Factor for five minutes and you’ll hearing this vocal style done only with more gusto even if it worse and full of delusions.
Acoustic singers always get the shit end of the stick as the market for them is so saturated. To stand out you either have to be a great lyricist, a great guitarist or great vocalist. And unfortunately Songs for Trees is none of these.
The track itself plods along nicely. Starts with some arpeggiated guitar, then the vocals come in, then some violin, builds up for a bit. Ends.
Simply put, it’s just dull. There is nothing to sink your teeth in to. It is what I call acoustic wallpaper. Entirely inconsequential as to whether it is playing or not.
