‘‘Unique vocals, stunning guitar solos and choruses that you’ll be humming for weeks.’ Push To Fire
‘Having developed a strong Manchester following, it’s easy to see Secret Pilot able to be successful in the current musical climate.’ Hey Man Check My Band
Manchester 4 piece Secret Pilot return with their debut single ‘Lucy’ which follows on form two critically acclaimed EP’s that has seen the band garner vast local support from the North West. Ali (vocals/guitar), Paddy (guitar), Tom (bass) and Phil (drums) are all 3rd Year students at the University of Manchester, and have just moved in together as they look to take their music careers to next level. The boys recorded the single in the Blueprint Studios, Salford home to local heroes Elbow.
Opening track ‘Lucy’ sees the band pogo-ing into action on a Vampire Weekend-infused bounce, which keeps the pace underneath some particularly Walkmen-esque vocal moments. The track eventually evolves into an anthemic chorus that does indie rock sing-alongs with the best of them before entering its final coda, an intermingling selection of guitar breaks that see out the track nicely.
B-Side ‘Sign of the Truth’ on the other hand takes the band’s sound in a different, darker direction, while still maintaining the strength of songwriting required to have been A-side fodder. Tight and pristine Strokes-styled guitar patterns weave in and out of a steady rhythm section before entering into another all-guns-blazing chorus. While the band’s sound may vary between the two tracks, one constant remains, their hearts being worn visibly on their sleeves.
‘Lucy’ is the bands 3rd self release and will be available to download from October 3rd. Secret Pilot will be launching the single at Joshua Brooks, Manchester on October 4th.
Gigs: 21st September – Roadhouse, Manchester. 28th September – The Crescent, Salford. 4th October – Joshua Brooks, Manchester. 10th November – Bakers Vault, Stockport.
