Kate Havnevik – Me

| On 18, Sep 2011

Even if you’re not familiar with Kate Havnevik you’ll certainly be aware of some of great musicians she’s worked with including providing vocals from electronic band Royksopp.

Her latest release is an EP entitled ‘Me’ ahead of her next studio album called ‘You’. Geddit? Taking the lead on the production from this record is Guy Sigsworth most notable for his work with Frou Frou and you can clearly see this marked throughout the EP. Armed with the information before you even listen to the album you can guess the content of the EP as being full of sweeping, abstract electronica underpinned with sweet melodies. Whilst you may know what to expect it is by no means predictable.

Opening track ‘Show Me Love’ is the most upbeat song on here as it soon gives way to the electronic bubbling of ‘Halo’ which mellows out the atmosphere preparing you for the rest of the EP.

There is also some flirtation with trip-hop on the track ‘Disobey’ which is a reworking of a demo released on her website that has now been brought to life with a marching trip-hop beat and Sigsworth talent for multi-layering sounds and melodies. There are also shades of Bachelorette by Bjork in the harsh syncopated synthesiser in the background.

The EP is a great collection of songs that bring together Havnevik’s fantastic dreamy vocals with Sigsworth production style of layering melodic electronica. If this is sign of what’s to come from her next album we’ll all be hearing more of Kate in the coming months.
